Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry. - Richard Feynman

Medieval Textiles ?

History
Originally part of Complex Weavers, an organization dedicated to the avocation of weaving, specifically for those with looms with eight or more shafts. However, people who weave on alternative looms or create passamentarie are also welcome.

This page is no longer a part of Complex Weavers but is still dedicated to the textile arts and crafts of the Medieval period.

Purpose
To study the textiles, & textile production of the medieval period Including but not necessarily limited to c. 500 AD thru c. 1500 AD Eurasia.

To this end, members discuss thru and contribute with written materials and/or swatches with draft or description of the method of creation to the (usually quarterly) newsletter.

Future
Although it may be feasible to reconsitute this website as the internet arm of a weaving group, that option is not currently in action. If, however, you are interested in being a part of such an initiative please let me know!

Otherwise, this is a repository of information with the goal of furthering study of exant textiles and means of recreating them.
