On this page are images of the samples woven for the annual sample exchange to date. Where known, the year for which these samples were woven are noted along with the information about the weaves and weavers. All samples can be found in the Medieval Textiles Sample Notebook in the Complex Weavers' Library. warp: wool, madder dyed or white, z-spun

weft: wool, madder dyed or white, s-spun

sett: 10 epi in a 10 dpi reed.

Notes: this weave was discussed in the Museum of London book Textiles and Clothing c.1150-1450 by Crowfoot, Pritchard, and Staniland, page 50, fig. 38(A) no. 64. The book does not mention the original sett or yarn grist. See samples from Dec. 2001 for another incarnation.

Source: Proceedings of the Society, 1951-52; Iona, Argyll. (HX 37.)P.S.A.S. LVIII (1923-4) 20, 102. Four fragments of linen cloth were found adhering to the outside of one of the silver spoons, in 1922, under the Nunnery Church. The largest fragment is 1-1/4" x 1" Orig. sett warp: c. 52 weft: c.34 (ends per inch?)

1999: Proto-Lampas to Lampas study

The purpose of this was to encourage the members to discover possibilities through research and through experimentation of links between lampas and possible pre-cursors. The result was some lovely samples.
